Veld Music Festival 2018
The 7th annual Veld Music Festival, presented by INK Entertainment was held on August 4th and 5th at Downsview Park in Toronto. The Veld Festival is one of the premier events of the Toronto music festival scene, and for the second year Electric Aura Projects were the production designers for the whole site – spanning 3 music stages as well as VIP & Site lighting. Headlining the Main Stage were popular international acts like DJ Snake – Marshmello – Martin Garrix and Migos.
Forward thinking technology provided the base for this extensive collaborative effort, a process that started with Vectorworks to create an accurate preview of the designs. Allowing the client and many stakeholders to feel comfortable along the way, knowing they could see how the design would be implemented, and being able to plan accordingly.
The production’s smooth execution was aided by bringing a touch of the studio into the live setup through the use of specialized plug-and-play software rigs. With an onsite WYSIWYG suite to access, the Electric Aura team as well as guest LD’s could program throughout the day. This meant the guest LD’s could tailor their show both to the style of each artist and leverage the innovative stage design, maximizing the design impact and creating unique programs for the performers.
Martin Sceptrons were a key part of the spectacular main stage design. Provided by Solotech – these fixtures were used extensively across the design and were used to create actively lit “bones” for the stage.
“This is the largest number of Sceptrons we have used on a project (over 900!) and they made a huge impact in the look of the design of the main stage. All of the major set elements were lined with these fixtures and they gave dynamic definition to the whole truss structure.”
